What made you say “yes” to FHM?
I guess it was time for me to be more open to discovering new things. It’s time for me na rin to come out since I’m no longer a child nor a teenager, pero siyempre may limitations pa rin. Wholesome pa rin, pero mas mature na.

Honestly, did you dread this?
No, masaya nga ako kasi from the very beginning nung minemake-upan pa lang ako kasundo ko na yung makeup artist. And I’ve worked with Jay our photographer, many times na rin. Walang hassle, walang pressure.

This is your first bikini shoot! I was nervous because it’s my first time to pose in a swimsuit. Pero excited ako kasi pag nakakikita ako ng FHM iniisip kong gusto ko rin lumabas dito. Besides, nagtu-two-piece naman ako sa beach. It was my mom who had qualms about it. Even when my manager Manny Valera said I should go for it, I waited for my mom’s go signal.

When FHM came out eight years ago, you were only 10! And you were already in showbiz then, right? Yes, I was already part of Ang TV. I was discovered because Nadia Montenegro is my half-sister. She encouraged me to try out for the show. Medyo nahirapan nga lang ako kasi hindi pa ako marunong mag-Tagalog. I was born in Spain and I had just moved to the Philippines, so I only knew little Filipino and English. So, during the show, nasa background lang ako, hindi masyadong nagsasalita, ha ha!

Good thing you grew up here!
We moved here when I was five years old. Dapat magbabakasyon lang kami. We were supposed to go back, but when my father passed away, my mom’s family and Ate Nadia told us to stay here instead.<

Do you recall any other of your earliest TV stints?
My first TV guesting was for Ipaglaban Mo, a Sunday afternoon legal drama. Doon talaga ako unang napasabak sa drama, talagang pinaiyak ako to a point na naaawa na ang mom ko dahil iyak ako nang iyak nang walang dahilan.

Was going the sexy route how you saw your career path would be?It never really crossed my mind then because all I knew was magpa-tweetums, ha ha! Siyempre nakikita ko yung mga nagpo-pose for FHM and I really find them sexy—I never thought I could be like them. When I transferred to Direk Manny’s stable, he prepped me to start taking on more mature roles. And I’m okay with that, pero sabi ko, “Wait lang, pero hindi ko pa po kaya yung bed scenes or nudity.” As of now, I’m fine with swimsuits. Pero kung kasing katawan ko na si Beyoncé, why not? Ha ha!

It was a surprise having your parents here. Sorry about the ice cream, though.
They’re just very supportive. Pero minsan my dad still feels hesitant because he believes na wala pa ring tatalo pag nakatapos ka sa pag-aaral. I’m a sophomore European Studies student. It has always been my dream to become an ambassador to the United Nations. I also want to be like Audrey Hepburn. But I took a leave of absence muna from school to concentrate on my career.

What was posing sexily in front of them like?
At first, it felt awkward. Pero as the hours passed, ayos na rin. It’s better that they’re here kasi there’s no reason to be ashamed of the pictures we took. Makikita rin naman kasi nila ito eventually. They really helped a lot. Like, remember my dad? Nag-style pa at inayus-ayos pa mga poses ko kanina

We honestly thought your FHM cover wouldn’t happen this soon.
Why? Because I’m the shy, pa-tweetums type? Actually, I was super shocked that you asked. I never thought you’d consider me. This is such an honor. To be an FHM cover girl means you think I’m beautiful, sexy, hot. It’s a privilege.

Why the change of image?
My manager, tito Manny Valera, explained to us thoroughly that I’d be packaged as sexy, regal, and sophisticated. Yung hindi bastusin. I realized it’s a great time to do this right now. I want to feel sexy and take care of my body and well-being some more

You had trouble doing that earlier, almost becoming the first FHM cover girl who fainted during a pictorial.
Ha ha! That’s because I was so nervous and excited at the same time. I didn’t have enough sleep last night. I only drank water. This is my first-ever magazine cover—and it’s for FHM pa. And I want to live up to your high standards.
